Meet Jem Gunn

Jem Gunn, MBACP, PG Dip (TA), BSc Hons

Jem Gunn is the Founder and Director of JEMGUNN Body Image Therapy Centre.

What makes us unique, and sets us apart, is the Founder’s deeply personal lived experience of, and recovery from, Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD), coupled with her specialist expertise in the field of Body Image Therapy;

Jem is a UKATA qualified, BACP registered therapist, specialising in appearance dissatisfaction and body image issues, including Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD).

A combination of her experience of the severe lack of awareness and understanding surrounding this mental health condition, a deep understanding of the limitations of existing therapies, and insights from her own personal experiences and challenges, ignited a strong passion in Jem to campaign to raise awareness on this under-recognised and under-diagnosed disorder, and a desire to use her experience, and expertise, to create a comprehensive, innovative, evidence-based therapeutic treatment programme for Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) sufferers.

Her lived experience of this disorder, shapes our Company’s core values of Presence, Empathy, Advocacy, Championing, and Educating (P.E.A.C.E). These values permeate every aspect of our approach and service offering.

At JEMGUNN Body Image Therapy Centre, we provide therapeutic services, guidance, support and information resources for anyone suffering with appearance dissatisfaction concerns, body image issues, and Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD).

We also provide therapeutic services, guidance, support and information resources for those affected, including intimate relationships, families, and impacted parties.

“Our team of dedicated, compassionate, and experienced therapists,
understand first-hand the challenges of body-image issues, and Body Dysmorphic Disorder.
We are here to support and guide you along your recovery journey. You are not alone .”

— Jem Gunn

We can help.

At JEMGUNN Body Image Therapy Centre we provide a safe and nurturing environment where individuals can heal, transform, and thrive on their journey towards positive body image and overall well-being.
We are committed to helping individuals gain clarity, confidence, and self-acceptance through our comprehensive approach. Here are some ways we support individuals on their journey towards positive transformation:

Clarity

"Clarity is empowering"
- Jem Gunn

We provide information and psychoeducational materials to help individuals gain clarity in learning more about the nature of their condition and experiences, and realising they are not alone.

We facilitate open and non-judgmental therapeutic support to explore underlying beliefs and thought patterns, and provide evidence-based techniques to challenge distorted thinking patterns that contribute to negative body image. By increasing awareness and providing tools for self-care, we empower individuals to take an active role in their own healing journey.

Confidence

"Confidence is not about being perfect, it's about embracing and owning your unique strengths"
- Jem Gunn

We offer a unique seven-step treatment program that combines psychotherapy, behavioural therapy, and coaching to provide an integrated approach to address the underlying factors, help individuals challenge distorted thoughts, develop coping strategies, and empower individuals to make meaningful changes, and build confidence and resilience.

We understand that each individual's experience of body-image issues is unique, so we work closely with individuals to create a personalised approach to suit specific needs or circumstances.

Self-Acceptance

"Self-Acceptance is where true beauty resides”
- Jem Gunn

We foster a supportive and inclusive community where individuals can connect with others facing similar challenges to share experiences, and receive encouragement from peers who understand their struggles. This sense of belonging and support is instrumental in building self-acceptance.

Recovery is an ongoing process, and we provide long-term support to ensure individuals maintain their progress. This includes follow-up sessions, check-ins, and access to resources that support continued growth and self-acceptance.
